Review of M. Butterfly (1993) by Erika F — 11 Nov 2006
I had to see this movie for my English class. I acted as if I had not read the play already while watching it to try to get the whole feel of the movie, but once you have read the play you already know the big secret.
Even knowing this the movie managed to be really good. It isn't like the play in that it is more of a movie and less of a stage play. Jeremy Irons really fits Gallimards role perfectly, showing what a great actor he is in a role that requires a lot of talent.
There are scenes that become disturbing once you know what is really going on. I wish I would have seen the movie before reading the play, becuase I can just imagine my jaw dropping at the end. It may be disgusting to watch but I liked the uniqueness and loyalty to the story in the play.
