Review of Little Fish (2005) by Steve R — 20 Apr 2006
This movie was critically acclaimed upon its release and only now after watching the film can I see why. A haunting piece of cinema, like 'Magnolia' you really are engrossed because of the characters and perhaps more so because of the amazing ensemble of actors behind these characters.
It reads like a 'who's who' of Australian actors. The overall feel of the film is so realistic and for me as an Australian, rings very true of Australian culture in all the subtle elements.
The final act seemed a bit out of place for me and it was a bit of a pity in that it suddenly twisted into a different film almost. Nonetheless it is still compelling to watch, if only for the magnificent Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in a welcome, radical change of character from his charismatic blockbuster roles.
