Review of Laurence Anyways (2012) by Jean-Marc D — 27 Jun 2012
Super acting by Baye & Poupaud. Tons of emotional involvement. One blemish ( Ã big one!) - Dolan wasn't able to edit this film. It got away from him and although intense & fascinating, it is too long.
I appreciate that since Dolan gets a maximum performance out of his actors because of his uncanny ability to bond with them, he would have a very hard time sending anything to the cutting floor. He is a very young director & lacks the experience & ability to choose what excellent scenes to chop down as would a Kramer or a Coppola: but Time is on his side - A remarkable superbly talented director we CAN expect to make it to Oscarland in the select group of top directors & he'll be up there for decades!
