Review of L'Atalante (1934) by Nikolai E — 31 Mar 2011
The film seems to have a mind of its own, drifting whimsically but never aimlessly from scene to scene as the mood strikes it, so you're never sure exactly what's going to happen next. The acting, cinematography and editing all contribute to a sense of heightened reality, naturalistic yet amplified.
