Review of Journey to the West (2014) by Bobby L — 25 Nov 2016

This movie was freaking weird. But it was fun. Part action, part horror, part comedy (albeit very dark and weird comedy), part romance, and very much religious - this was a fun experience into foreign cinema.

The demons were creepy and funny, and the action was zany and crazy. I guess there are few limits with Chinese cinema (like what happens in the opening scene, come on people!)- and not knowing what to expect was a nice breath of fresh air.

This movie definitely kept you on your toes. I probably should know more about Buddhism to fully appreciate it, but I enjoyed it in my ignorance. Feel like something crazy weird and fun, something out of what you are used to seeing? This is the movie for you.
