Review of I've Heard the Mermaids Singing (1987) by Christine S — 18 Feb 2011
A good but weird film, it proves to be accessibly weird. Sheila McCarthy (who looks like Susan from work in this movie) is sweet, plain and perfect for this role. The other women are bitches and thus are cast right! While the moments of fantasy are weird; they work perfectly as both Canadiana as well as within the context of the movie due to Polly's weirdness.
Simply put, it's a quaint movie that makes for a pleasant time.
