Review of Insomnia (2002) by Jorge F — 21 Sep 2011
Christopher Nolan's thriller "Insomnia" is one of the best movies he directed after Memento. Its about a detective/cop hero named Will Dormer, that travels to a sleepless town in alaska, where almost all the time is daylight.
He goes there to solve a murder of a teenaged girl and to capture the murderer, but when hunting for him, something else stops him, which is friendly fire. So Dormer decides to cover it up, making him stressed, which causes insomnia.
You can definitly tell that this is a Nolan film, showing familiar filming technics, such as the silent flashbacks at random times (which is in every one of his movies), and of course, the extreme close-ups, making another unique beginning from Nolan.
