I found the backstory WAY more interesting than the story itself. I mean, this recluse janitor spent more than 60 years writing a 15000 page novel with included artwork, which was only discovered after he died.
I found the guy's history and how he came to write his book to be very interesting, but they left a lot of it out. Plus I thought his novel (at least the paintings) were uber creepy. And Dakota Fanning's voice irritated me.
Eh, at least he got his story out there in the end.
