Review of Images (1972) by Clare N — 11 Oct 2007
One of the lesser known Altman films, "Images" is a very clever study of mental illness. The film itself is almost "experimental" in style as it captures a writer and her schitzophrenic delusions.
Are they real or imagined? The John Williams score (before he went all over the top for the likes of "Star Wars") is stark and haunting and coupled with Stomu Yamashta's wonderful sound design brings much to the rather disturbing mood of the film.
Both entertaining and chilling, it's a shame this film does not garner the same prestige as other Altman works.
