Review of if.... (1968) by Erron S — 06 Jan 2008
This is the most subversive movie ever made. Imagine Harry Potter and Columbine rolled into one at an elite English school and you still won't nearly be there yet. On one level, If... is a picture of a dying world of class, elitism and authoritarianism as it confronts the dangerous student trends of the 1960's.
On the other, it is a loving portrait of a world that no longer exists. This movie will probably never be seen on television so you better run out to buy the DVD before it is too late. This is Malcolm McDowell's first role and I have to honestly say that I find it much more relevant and terrifying than Cloclwork Orange.
