Review of House of Sand and Fog (2003) by Vincent M — 03 Mar 2008
'House of Sand and Fog' is a tragic human drama. The cast consists of Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley who both perform at the top of their game delivering two of the best performances I can recall.
The film is as beautiful as it is painful to watch. If I were to write a screenplay I always thought that the film wouldn't take sides, there wouldn't be a black or white. It's in human nature to be good and evil.
This film comes close to exerting this idea. We sympathize for everyone in the picture which only increases it's dramatic effect. As the film concluded I realized that the film had taken an amazing and deeply saddening direction that has only been rivaled for myself recently by last year's 'the Hours'.
This film merits it's praise and is a very fair depiction of humanity at it's worst and it's finest.
