Review of House of Fools (2002) by Fabien H — 22 Jul 2007
The true story of a mental asylum & its residents caught in the firing line of Chechen rebel forces in Russia. Konchalovsky manages to be hilarious one moment yet profound the next. Everyone is running around insane it's just that some of us have been sectioned...
Brilliant characters weave a commentary about the lunacy of war. Framed by some great camera angles, peppered with Bryan Adams as a recurring fantasy, it is both surrealist and documentary. This made me laugh so hard, but it also made me reflect quite deeply.
