Review of Hit the Deck (1955) by Jennifer H — 26 Jun 2009
Great Musical! This was the first golden era musical that I saw that was not considered a classic. So I have a lot of respect for it. The plot is nothing special. There are movies that came before it with the same idea of three sailors, on leave, meeting three beautiful women.
But I think this has better motive and a better cast. To begin with: Jane Powell( one of my favorites), Vic Damone (who doesn't get enough credit), Russ Tamblyn, Debbie Reynolds, and Ann Miller. See! Right there, you're already blown away! The costumes are gorgeous and the dancing is creatively meshed.
I just love it!!
