Review of Henry Fool (1998) by Benjamin F — 14 Jan 2008
Powerful, and feels like sort of a quintessential '90s indie film. It's got a good cast and a solid soundtrack, but in every regard, it's really writing that's on center stage in Henry Fool - both in regards to the film's script and central focus.
The characters are interesting contradictions, all well conceived and developed, and the chaos that unfolds between them is well worth observing. Hartley's written a film that will at times impress you and at times make you cringe, but it will hook you in and leave you thinking all throughout.
Excellent cinema.
