Review of Hello Herman (2012) by Cindy H — 11 Feb 2013
"Hello Herman" is the story of a teen (Garrett Backstrom) telling a blogger (Norman Reedus) and why he committed a horrifying crime. It is very disturbing, but equally so is the public reaction shown via a news segment called Chet Chat, which calls for an equally evil and violent response.
The aggressive rhetoric is a painful reminder that society seems to cry for vengeance without stopping to consider the causes of the first destructive outburst. This highly effective and heart-wrenching film is a sobering look at tragedies and the visceral reactions people have to them, as well as how people can be brought to the breaking point to commit such atrocities.
