Just gorgeous to watch. I think the real challenge in approaching Shakespeare on camera is not to ignore the medium itself, and to utilize both the language of the play along with the visual power of cinema without having to sacrifice one for the other.

Filmed on 70mm, Branagh's Hamlet utilizes both medium's to the extreme to craft a Hamlet that is rich in complexity, humor, truth, passion, and wit while framing it with the sweeping power of any great cinema epic.

The fact that it is uncut in length could also give it the status of being the most complete Hamlet ever filmed. Whether you are approaching this text as a student, actor, director, or scholar--this is the Hamlet to see above all others.

And whether or not you like Shakespeare, any lover of the cinema will want to see this just to appreciate the non-stop eye-candy of the costumes, set, and 70mm film stock that this beauty was shot in.
