Allison Anders writes women with a truth that isn't always present from other female writers. This movie is based on Carole King's experiences working in the Brill Building in the '60s. It's always been a movie I turn back to when I need inspiration.
As an extra added bonus, we get stunning performances from Illeana Douglas and John Turturro as well as an incredible soundtrack including the awesome Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach-penned song "God Give Me Strength".
