Review of Gothic (1987) by Victor Z — 05 Jul 2008
Probably one of the most interesting movies I have ever seen. Stylistically it is completely balls to the wall, out of this fucking world. I could expect no less from the same genius who directed my favorite movie of all time, Altered States.
All the performances are devastatingly intense, the visuals are effective and completely mind-boggling. it is one of the most bizarre rides you can take - however you need to able to settle with the Shakespearean style dialect, as the movie must take place in the early 1900's.
It's dirty, horrific, seductive, trippy, and you'll feel like maybe you're not supposed to be watching it. A new favorite of mine, personally.
