Review of Ghostwatch (1992) by John M — 24 Sep 2012
The mockumentary that inspired Blair Witch. Like that pants-browning offering, the fact that it is an example of vérité horror, adds to the scariness.
You've also got to remember that a lot of people who whatched this at the time of its release - an 11-year-old me included - didn't know this was a drama. So when things started going diddly-doo and all oogily-boogily, they (and I) were scared stupid, but once I knew it was a teleplay, I was impressed, and I still am.
It makes me sad, in a way, though, to think that, because of the furore it created, never again will tv be this innovative or exciting.
