Review of Flirting (1988) by Yury M — 19 Jun 2008
Flirting is a splendid little movie. Set in the 60s in Australia, it draws one into the world of youth, discovery and love. It is impossible to resist innocence and nostalgia of the story, which revolves around a young Australian teenager from an all-male boarding school falling in love with an African girl from an all-female boarding school, located conveniently across a river.
I do not doubt that the film is autobiographical in more than one way. It is genuinely touching and heart-felt. Acting is top-notch. I truly enjoyed watching Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Thandie Newton and Noah Taylor before they became prominent actors.
This is for anyone who loves a good love story untouched by Hollywood formulas.
