Review of Explorers (1985) by Bill G — 06 Jun 2007
Sometimes I think I am the only person in the universe who thinks this movie is damn near perfect. Even the goofiest of the scenes make twisted sense in context. I can agree that the second half is a little weaker, but here is what impresses me: the film is unfinished. The studio forced Dante to release it almost a year early; still, somehow, it all holds together. Dante, practically my god of film, has put together a movie that is light, fun, adventurous, and thought-provoking. Also, it is a great blend of originality and homage to the cinematic sci-fi classics.
I love this movie. It's easily my favorite, though I know it's not for everybody. If you love Dante, sci-fi, or me, please watch this when you get the chance.
