Review of Expired (2007) by Zsolt K — 01 Apr 2009
Another in the marginalised ordinaries genre, this time with the excellent Morton in the lead. It started out as a sad but funny portrait of a virgin in a shite job but the lid comes off when Jason Patric in the role of a lifetime enters her life.
His every move and utterance a poem of total asshole-ism, his character defines every jerk a girl has to put up with during her early years and does so with a relish. Conflicted, frustrated and misogynistic, this guy gives municipal workers a bad name from his dismal parenting to his masturbatory hobbies.
Morton's character ditches her door mat status before the finale, leaving her evolution to the imagination. But it is Patric's movie all the way. See it to witness one of the most eerie performances in cinema.
An extra star for some inclusive steadicamerawork.
