Review of Epidemic (1987) by Jonathan S — 07 Jul 2009
Might be the most 'meta' film I have ever seen. Lars von Trier makes some daring choices here, creating a film that sums up the work of a visual artist in a puzzling, sometimes maddening, but ever-engaging fashion.
The film's payoff is worth the ride if you're able to bare with its extreme experimental nature. In the end it feels simultaneously horrifying and farcical (not completely to its benefit), but I can safely say it's one of the most unpredictable film experiences that I think will probably never and probably can never be replicated.
