The super-sophisticate critics call the love element in this movie "sappy." Au contraire. Those of us who love things Asian will find it no more sappy than the romances in "Sayonara" or "Shogun.
" This is a good story, set in an interesting time and place, played well by all concerned. Forget the critics. Watch the film.
