Review of Driving Lessons (2006) by Tatiana G — 28 Jul 2009
I'm actually quite shocked at the ratings for this. Coming of age is timeless, yes - but it can be incredibly BORING. This is anything but boring and the scenery is amazing. I found the acting to be realistic and not overdone.
I got so sucked into it the first time I watched it that I never even moved from my sitting position on my bed. I didn't want to lie down or make popcorn. It wasn't action or explosions that kept my attention, it was the characters and the feel of the film.
Ben's story was my story, his mistakes were my mistakes, and his achievements were my goals. It's subtle and if you look hard enough, inspiring. It's a simple story with a lot of heart. The humor is light and witty and I found that more refreshing than another silly comedy or forbidden love story.
Perhaps I give praise too willingly, but Driving Lessons is still the favorite in my collection.
