Review of Dope (2015) by Brendan N — 13 Nov 2018
Rick Famuyiwa has made the best film of his career with Dope. Most filmmakers would fail with such a film, I can't recall seeing a film like this since House Party back in the 90s. Dope is one of those rare films that can maintain a certain unique style and consistent tone over the duration.
It's a fun film and it manages to squeeze in a subplot of drug dealing amongst all the various plots throughout the film. This is a one of a kind film that is magnetic and made with passion. I can't believe it has taken me this long to watch the film but I will have this on my top 9 for its release year, it is that good.
