Review of De-Lovely (2004) by Scott B — 02 Aug 2012
Portraying the life of one of musical theatre's most prolific composers as a musical in itself was clever, though my distaste for the campiness of musical theatre found me rolling my eyes at more than one part.
That being said, it was a change of pace to watch the personal ruin of an artist come about not from external influences like drugs or alcohol but from internal selfish indulgence. I especially enjoyed the costumes and set-pieces that portrayed the glamour of the elite in the early half of the 20th century.
If there hadn't been so much unnecessary singing and dancing in the form of impromptu musical numbers this would have been a magnificent picture.
