Review of Darkon (2006) by Jose P — 13 Sep 2008
Despite horrible pacing issues, it's a film that works on many levels: as a documentary, it gives great insight into all aspects of its subject matter; as a fantasy-drama, it actually builds up convincingly and gets you pretty riled up for the climax; as a comedy, it has an excellent sense of visual irony as it pokes fun at the various characters we follow around.
LARPGs are hardly serious business to most people, but the totality of their presentation in Darkon is simply fascinating. If anything it makes me think that all fantasy video game developers have failed me miserably.
Anyway, a great and funny movie that shouldn't be missed, despite how it drags really badly at certain points.
