Review of Dagon (2001) by Rodney W — 23 Feb 2007
I love this movie. Stuart Gordon always impresses me with his well-done renditions of H.P. Lovecraft's stories. Dagon stands out to me as the best, though. It's my personal favorite. It feels theater-worthy, just very well-done in every way.
Lovecraft stated once that the movie format would ruin anything that a story may have built up, but I feel this just doesn't apply with Stuart Gordon's films. All of them, but especially Dagon, do Lovecraft justice.
The atmosphere and sentiments of fear, dread, and absolute horror are all there, presented in full and with proper respect. This movie is amazing, and I say a must-see for any Lovecraft or horror fan.
