Review of CQ (2001) by Kerri H — 16 Jul 2007
This film is almost perfect on paper: directed by a Coppola complete with artsy and stylistic angles and cuts, amazing soundtrack by Mellow, a setting both in a modernized France in 1969 and a retro-ized version of the future (2001), and a lot of very beautiful actors.
Even with all the homages (Truffaut, Fellini, Vadim) and what could have been a compelling storyline of a movie within the movie, it just doesn't quite work. Perhaps all it needs is a little more fleshing out so that we can actually get to know and care about the characters. I really wanted to.
