A former drug addict who now believes herself to be a lesbian gets drunk and has a one-night stand with a male stranger, causing her to begin developing a series of bizarre symptoms. This is the basic set-up of Contracted, a film about a young woman trying to find herself.
Instead, a few moments of her life ends up defining her in radically new and horrific ways. As her disease blossoms like the rare orchids that she tends, she discovers not her identity but the primal core that she has been masking in order to fit the expectations of those around her.
What ensues is a methodical, slow-burn of horror film that will leave you speechless at the end.
