Review of Chinese Coffee (2000) by David M — 25 Mar 2012
A rare adaptation of an off broadway show that al Pacino originated the role for. Here he directs and stars in the movie, that tries desperately to open up a script that is just a two gander unit set of a play.
It works mostly, as flashbacks fight the claustrophobia. The language and skill of the performances carry the picture. As two friends meet one night to have it out over art, a new manuscript, money, age, and their friendship.
Writers will appreciate the semi autobiographical story.
