Review of Céline and Julie Go Boating (1974) by Frank P — 20 Sep 2007
Greatest film ever made. Sixty years of cinema history encapsulated in three hours of tremendous entertainment. Juliet Berto sets an unprecedented and inimitable style of unabashed narcissism. This is the definite film that shows a situation where actors are as important as the filmmakers.
This is also the film David Lynch has been trying to remake for his entire career - and he hasn't even come close. Both Rivette and Lynch put ideas before organization, yet where Rivette exercises grace and sophistication, Lynch showcases bad taste in vulgarity.
