Review of Camino (2008) by Daniel O — 13 Apr 2009
A breathtaking, touching and stunning movie about the power of love and innocence over the lies and fanatism of the Opus Dei. Amazingly well directed and best performed (specially the girl Nerea Camacho, absolutely amazing), with a lot of beautiful reminiscences to Cinderella, this is a must-see.
Very dramatic, at some point it'll burst you into tears if not many times, and it is necessary to watch it at least twice to get all the fascinating details that surrounds the tale. Only a weak point: at some points it can be too obvious. The Opus Dei people on this film, more than confused or fanated, seem to be the children of the devil, while the little Camino is a pure angel who's being 200% utilized by them.
But it's a minor flaw in what I consider one of the best films ever made in Spain in years. Why didn't it go to the Oscars?. Probably the Church had something to do on it... they of course tried to boicot the movie when released.
