19 year old simpleton, Marie Allen (Eleanor Parker) enters into prison life without expectations for a crime that her husband had committed. It's called cage as a slang for control of a particular group, in exchange for favors.
Except that one of the female prison guard's by the name of Evelyn Harper (Hope Emerson) is sadistic. Which may force prison inmates to make adaptions to continue to criminal life. .
