Review of Burnt by the Sun (1994) by Jeff B — 02 Jun 2007
1994 Foreign film winner at the Oscars from Russia. It's about an upper class family in 1930s Russia after the revolution. To be honest, I really don't know much of the Russian history during that era, so it's a bit difficult to explain the set up of the movie.
But it's not too hard to follow. The director also stars in the film (and his daughter in the film is his real life daughter). Overall it's a powerful movie, I understood it more after viewing the whole thing, rather than while watching it.
And as I mentioned in the Random Thoughts thread, there's a sequel that's supposed to be released this year, I'd be interested in seeing how that's handled.
