Review of Bright Young Things (2003) by Lucy B — 19 Jun 2007
I was interested to see this film after I finsihed Vile Bodies and was delighted by Mr. Fry's adaptation. I thought he took some interesting liberties in terms of making the story far less blase about the emotions of its characters, which removes some of the satirical bite from Waugh's story.
However, it also turned the film into quite an unexpectedly touching experience. I thought the casting was brilliant and the chaos of the 20's was wonderfully represented. A great success on all counts.
