Review of Blind Shaft (2003) by Jason Y — 02 Sep 2004
DVD First Viewing, 1 Yang film seen.
Blind Shaft is a thriller that works better as a documentary. Director Li Yang started as a documentarian, and his style shows it in an attempt to make a noir, bleak movie about two con-men miners from China. It offers some commentary on the evils of men and the overpopulation of China, but I thought it was a little unsatisfying. And the ending is a little too ironic. Even cliche.
