Review of Beyond the Wall of Sleep (2006) by Bryan C — 15 Jun 2008
The movie doesn't focus on exactly what crime Joe Slaader committed, so feeling a bit scared of him is impossible. Also, the background on why Joe was "bred" to hold Ambducious is hollow, lacking in a lot of information that might make this film deeper.
The film alludes to so much, yet doesn't come close to explaining things properly. Probably the scariest part of the movie was with the chick killing Dr. Fenton. Otherwise, the movie tries to come off as trippy and frightening, but instead, all the "flash backs" tend to make the movie feel more chaotic and less substantial.
After hearing so much about H.P Lovecraft, I'm disappointed in this. You're probably better off finding the book and reading it.
