Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Kyle H — 30 May 2014
It will be painful for any modern moviegoer to sit through a movie as long as Ben-Hur, but there are several sequences that will be sure to keep their attention, particularly the famous chariot race sequence.
The Christian elements are present enough to make religious audiences rejoice but not overblown enough to make the secularists cringe. Overall this is a superb movie that they don't make the likes of anymore.
Its greatest strength is the interplay between the two main characters, Judah and Messala, both of which are performed marvelously by the likes of Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd. Everyone must at least watch that phenomenal chariot race, which still reigns over the CGI action sequences running rampant in modern cinema, proving that the real thing is always better.
