Review of Beautiful Boy (2011) by Robert A — 07 Nov 2011
Beautiful Boy is a beautifil film, a high-minded drama about how the parents get devastated by their son's murderous rage, and how they tried to parry everything, including themselves. The concious effort to subdue almost evrything, except that motel confrontation, which was short to illumine the reasons for the tragic event, is the film's strength as it is its downside.
The movie teases to reveal the motive behind the despicable deed, but in the end decided not to, perhaps afraid of the backlash from relatives of victims similarly fated in real life. Maria Bello and Michael Sheen gave great performances here.
