Review of Barry (2016) by Jason M — 19 Dec 2016
Sometimes, the best thing a biopic can do is stick to a specific slice of its figure's noteworthy life. That's true with "Barry", a movie that zeroes in on Barack Obama at about age 20.
As much as it's about him, it's about the beautiful struggles and paradoxes of youth, wherein you're encouraged to be your own unique self while simultaneously being expected to conform in order to be a member of things like cliques.
What a good, thoughtful movie this is, and kudas to its director for being able to view Obama at a level gaze, seeing him for who he is at the time for better or worse.
