Review of An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn (2018) by Whiskeystories — 02 Dec 2018
Hosking's two for two so far in my book. No other film made me laugh harder this year than An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn. Greasy Strangler is a lot weirder and out-there, while this film is much more accessible.
I was afraid that Hosking mixing his wonderfully oddball cast with bigger comedy people wouldn't work, but the two complemented each other quite satisfyingly. Well, except for Hirsch. He stood out like a sore thumb (which is weird, because I usually like him a lot in his movies).
My other criticism would be that Luff Linn runs out of steam a little bit by the last act, but it makes up for it with its heartfelt finale.
