Review of Amy (2015) by Andy E — 31 Jul 2015
I became a fan of Amy Winehouse late in her career, after I started seeing YouTube video, from her late teens. She was a student of pure jazz. And she could sing it... Were she to have pursued a singer of classic jazz, she might still be alive, today.
As is often the case in stories such as this, there were any number of enablers in her downward spiral... no to mention opportunists... her husband Blake, and her father, Mitch.
The film director and producer managed to create a coherent retrospective out of cell phone and archival footage, combined with comments from an assortment of friends and relatives.
This is a must-see for students of music history, and a cautionary tale for aspiring vocalists and musicians.
