Review of Amer (2009) by Sandy R — 31 Aug 2010
A truly stunning visual and audio delight from directors Bruno Forzani and Helene Cattet. A lovingly crafted homage to the imagery and music of Italian murder mystery and detective films produced during the 60's and 70's, which were referred to as gialli.
Amer doesn't share the typical detective story, in fact it has a nonlinear narrative structure which instead washes over you with a collage of extraordinary images, a kaleidoscope of colour and brilliant sound design.
Amer is a very sensuous movie experience, it's not so much a movie you watch and understand but a movie you feel. The film recycles original music from the likes of Morricone, Nicolai and Cipriani.
A wonderful accomplishment in film and one of the best looking movies of the last decade.
