Review of Allegro non troppo (1976) by Mark F — 21 Feb 2008
This is a brilliant send-up/re-imagining of Disney's Fantasia. The animated segments are near-genius (some of them are both moving and hilarious), and the physical comedy bits in the middle are pretty funny.
It's really not as cynical as it seems, thanks the the masterpieces Bozzetto chose to use. The Bolero segment is the clear winner, but the Valse Triste and The Firebird are also high points. The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is because the animation is not consistently great, or even consistently good (although it can be great, as in the Bolero sequence.
