Review of A Touch of Zen (1970) by Dave R — 15 May 2009
Hard to believe this was made 40 years ago. it's a kung fu revenge flick - albeit an artsy one. one of the key battles is at night and it is way too dark to see what's going on so that was disappointing. but aside from that it's entertaining. it's quite long though and the characters lack any real depth and at times it's not clear whose story this is because there's a kind of protagonist shift.
Some of the story goes like this: a ming dynasty slacker (he's smart but unmotivated) hooks up with the daughter of a disgraced politician. she's on the run and in hiding and being protected by 2 loyal generals. the corrupt politicians who killed her father are after her. yada yada yada it goes on and on...
Overall i'd say it was pretty good.
