Review of $9.99 (2009) by The Bad G — 16 May 2010
â??$9.99â?? is a whacky, fun stop motion animation movie about a bunch of people living in an apartment complex in Sydney, Australia. These people are familiar with each other but arenâ??t exactly friends â?? they merely exist in the same space and time.
I dug the story until the end at which point it just got really weird. Iâ??d have given this 4 stars but the ending left me hanging and disappointed. There are several missed plot opportunities (mainly surrounding the old man) in my opinion and the film could have been a lot better if certain other avenues were taken.
I thought this would have worked really well as a live action indie production. It had the feel of a quirky indie flick but perhaps budget got in the way. For a stop motion film, a genre which I almost never watch, I thought it was decent. It wonâ??t blow your socks off but itâ??s short enough that itâ??s not time wasted either.
