Review of 4th Man Out (2015) by Daniel P — 09 Oct 2016
A warm if not totally successful movie about a twentysomething American guy who comes out to his buddies. His mates determine to try to fix him up with a decent boyfriend and the comedy focuses on their well-meaning but awkward manner of going about things.
The humour is gentle and at heart, this is an attempt to give a different take on the buddy/bromance movie. There's nothing actually wrong with it and it's good to see issues like this tackled in an upbeat manner but I did feel a little as though the movie was ten years out of date.
Still, it was good to see likeable, positive depictions of normal gay characters that didn't resort to stereotyping in order to gain cheap laughs. As a signal of how far we've come, this is a sign of hope.
