Henry Polak (1925-2003), a classic Czech sci-fi and a children's film, began in the second half of the 40. years of his career as an assistant director on films by Otakar Vávra or creative tandem Ján Kadára and Elmar Klose.
As an independent director made his debut feature adventurous film Death in the saddle (1958), to which, as well as to most of his films, he also wrote the script (in cooperation with Jiří Cirklem). His other work includes mostly genre pictures – sci-fi Ikarie XB 1 (1963), the war drama Sky riders (1968) or crime the Death of hitchhikers (1979). Next to them in his film and tv production, focused on children's audience, which were intended TV series and movies Pan Tau (1969-1978), Visitors (1981-1983), Lucie, postrach ulice (1980, 1984) or Squid from the II. palate (1986). His work has been repeatedly appreciated at film shows and festivals.
